Cubicle Jungle? ….We say no thank you!

Moles. Creepy little things; those animals that dig tunnels in the ground and look like large rats? The most pop culture friendly reference to them is the “Whack a Mole” game that portrays their signature pop-out-of-the-ground nature. Many of the cubicle jungles in the corporate world have been compared to these moles and their homes. The understanding is that the employees in these cubicles work really hard like the moles do in their solitary living status, only making contact with others in dire situations (moles only associate with other moles for reproduction purposes). But, how efficient is this system? What are the benefits?

Well, at Posh we do not necessarily see the benefits of slaving away at an isolated, closed off office space. Come to think of it, CNN agrees with us. The recently published article, CNN 10: Better by Design points out the benefits of having open office spaces and constantly collaborating employees. These office space concepts with shared desks and thoughts are redefining the age-old office infrastructure. Switching from a cubicle culture to an open atmosphere has enabled better collaboration, creativity and just a better overall sense of community amongst the employees.

Posh has seen this type of camaraderie develop amongst a group of our youngest employees who have decided to ditch the desk and work in a conference room together. Such rebels; but not really. The results: surprisingly increased productivity, heightened transparency amongst employees on issues, which in the end lowered the turnaround time in tackling these challenges and an overall enthusiastic vibe has been spreading across the office.

We are looking forward to promoting this kind of office structure to the rest of Posh’s locations around the world to gain similar results across the globe.

Now That’s a Successful Campaign

Sometimes, plans don’t produce the ROI that a company originally predicted. Sometimes, plans barely reach their end goal and then other times, a great plan explodes and exceeds expectations. Imagine exceeding expectations by 441%! The Reading Rainbow Kickstarter campaign did just that.

Reading Rainbow’s Kickstarter campaign hit a significant milestone last week: It not only raised the US $1 million it originally sought to create a Web version of the popular children’s television show within the first 24 hours of the campaign, but also wrapped the 35-day effort with an additional $4.4 million for a grand total of $5,408,916 in donations.

“Reading Rainbow wasn’t about a financial transaction or donation,” he told TechNewsWorld. “It was about taking us back in time when things seemed simpler, and being able to show that to a future generation.”

Why was is successful?

1)     It is a movement: People want to be a part of something good and something that lasts

2)     Didn’t overlook the little guy: The small $5 donations were just as important as the big ones, making up 1/5 of the total pledges

3)     Drove their own visibility on Kickstarter: They were not about to let their campaign fall into that shadows because if a large influx of other campaigns so they took control

“I think we’ll see more blockbuster campaigns replicate the Reading Rainbow model, combining celebrities, low-cost rewards, and a cause to create a campaign that becomes more than a project. It becomes a movement.” Read more about Reading Rainbow Finds Pot of Gold.

Distinction is a remarkable word to have paired with your company, services or products. Going against up to 6,000 other very qualified applicants and coming out on top is quite an exciting accomplishment for us. It is an honor to be chosen as one of the distinctive mobile winners, ” said Vishal Misri, CEO of Zensa Technologies.

“The Communicator Awards is the leading international awards program recognizing big ideas in marketing and communications. Founded two decades ago, The Communicator Awards receives over 6,000 entries from companies and agencies of all sizes, making it one of the largest awards of its kind in the world… The Communicator Awards honors work that transcends innovation and craft - work that made a lasting impact, providing an equal chance of winning to all entrants regardless of company or agency size and project budget. So, who is mako anyway and what do they do? Well, it is the top online news and entertainment portal in Israel; in fact, it is the fastest growing news and entertainment site in Israel, ranking number 3 among all Israeli websites with more than 2 million unique monthly users. Mako offers a compelling mix of news, entertainment, lifestyle, and television shows on the leading broadcast channel (channel 2).

Mako dominates the apps world in Israel, and operates one of the leading Facebook fan pages with 613,000 likes, along with numerous other social media pages, mako brings their mass following to a total of over 1 million fans. Even with such a solid fan base, mako still wanted to continue to grow and reach an ever greater audience.

Zensa recently convinced mako to move to the Windows 8 platform and executed a Windows 8.1 app. We knew it was a great application, but did not anticipate that it would become an award-winning application. The successful delivery allowed Zensa to expand the presence of mako to include a Windows Phone 8 version of the app to be published by end of FY14.

Zensa Delivered:

  1. A background downloader in order to easily display the progress of each download and provided the ability to download large data files.
  2. A file system query solved the issue behind the inability to display lots of files from a local device to the app in less time.
  3. Enhanced security by generating pdf thumbnails at the time of downloading and hid those in the app for privacy reasons.

Zensa provided Mako with end to end application development, including detailed graphic design, development and deployment to the Microsoft app store. Mako needs to demonstrate leadership and presence in all available significant media and entertainment channels. In this sense, Zensa helped Mako expand their reach out to the Windows 8 audience. The CEO of mako, Ori Rosen, was very pleased with the design, delivery and functionality of the final Windows 8 product. “As Israel’s leading entertainment & brand, mako needed a breakthrough Windows 8 app and Zensa delivered!”

Check out Mako in the Windows store. We hope you can read Hebrew!
